It's about a Generational Conversation
Before the next deal is inked to sell a car, perfume or beer using a song from our youth, before the hammer goes down on the last shirt, guitar or doodle at Sotheby’s by a boomer rock star hero—we need to take stock. Rather than accept the media’s effort to trivialize the boomer’s culture and beliefs using the stock cliché that compared to the ‘greatest generation’ we are ‘self absorbed’ and ‘self indulgent’ we need to define just exactly who we were and what we stood for. We need to establish that the things we believed back then and the books, music and art we liked were worth something. We need to do this not just because it is good for us to hold onto our identities in this very turbulent era but also because we need for our children (and maybe future culture historians) to get us right and not swallow the media’s simplified distortions.

BabyBoom Review is focused on reminding ourselves about what will live beyond the era and why. It is a forum where, informed and refreshed by the books, movies, music, websites and blogs we continue to enjoy, we can talk about the positive contribution of the 1960s and 1970s.

Our aim is not to bathe in nostalgia but rather to reclaim some of the ideals and passions of our youth and figure out how to use them productively today. For example, as we boomers consider such inevitable, if mundane topics, as retirement we should consider our options, not through the lens of financial planners, who tend to dominate the field, but through the eyes of fellow creative individuals, who know all about the need for artistic re-invention.

BabyBoom Review provides a number of wiki enabled forums, blog and a podcast to ignite a generational conversation. Maybe we didn`t win a world war but we did make giant steps to help build a world peace by helping to break down some of the barriers of inequality. Our view is let’s recapture some of that 1960s imaginative spirit and energy and reshape it for today’s world. Our children will surely thank us for passing on the legacy.
